Animal welfare report highlights progress, challenges and importance of collaboration in Brazilian poultry and other animal protein sectors.

Animal Welfare in the Brazilian Production Chain: Progress and Ambitions for the Future, was launched by the Brazilian Food Industry Collaboration for Animal Welfare (COBEA) during the International Animal Protein Trade Show (SIAVS) earlier this month.
The English language version follows the Portuguese, published in May, and, according to COBEA Director Elisa Tjarnstrom, making the report available in English represents an important step toward expanding international dialogue and increasing awareness of Brazil’s progress in animal welfare.
“Brazil is one of the leaders in global animal protein production, and we believe it is important that the international community understands both the progress that has been achieved and the challenges that remain.
“Our goal is to contribute to a constructive global conversation y sharing experiences, encouraging increased collaboration, and showcasing how animal welfare is becoming an increasingly important part of responsible animal production,” she explains.
Collaboration key to progress
Rather than presenting animal welfare as a compliance issue, the report argues that it has become a strategic component of resilient food systems, responsible business practices, and long-term value creation. It also highlights growing evidence that improvements in animal welfare can contribute to animal health production efficiency, product quality, sustainability and market competitiveness.
One of the report’s central conclusions is that that meaningful progress cannot be achieved through isolated initiatives alone. The report argues that advancing animal welfare requires stronger collaboration among all across in the value chain, with shared ambitions, coordinated action, and common approaches capable of generating consistent and lasting improvements.
